Steps to Buying a Home

Interesting in Buying a new Home? Not sure where to start? Here’s a quick guide to some steps that will help you along the process.

Take a look at your finances

A lender is the best place to start. Even if you know your credit score and feel ready, there are other factors to consider and so many mortgage products available! Talk with a lender and explore those options so you know what you can truly afford. We recommend local lenders who know what products work in our area. If you need a recommendation, we can help! A good lender can give you advice about areas that you need to work on like paying down credit cards or cleaning up a past mistake.

2. Find a Realtor

We hope you’ll call us! Having a buyer’s agent that is representing you in a transaction is so important to your peace of mind. A Realtor can guide you in pointing out potential problems and in working through all the steps of the buying process. We’ve got your back!

3. Search

Discuss with your realtor where and what your needs are in a home – your realtor will set up a search for you. This is the best way to get the most recent information – as soon as a property hits the MLS, you will be notified! While on-line sources are a wonderful first look, you will need to schedule showings with your Realtor.

4. Make an Offer

Your Realtor can show you comparable properties to help determine your offer amount. But there is more to consider when making an offer! Consider timing, financing, inspections and the competitiveness of the market.

5. Follow up and stay in touch with your realtor and lender

There is still lots to be done – your lender will need all kinds of information and your Realtor will guide you through inspections, contractors, the appraisal and settlement. Stay on top of things!

6. You’re home!
